Really interesting Scrape this, Two Koi brought in for a look at. One was obviously very healthy and the other was very weak and emaciated. It also had a largish patch of green fungus on its shoulder which I would suspect had been there quite a while. Water came back good so we took a scrape from both Koi on the same slide.
The upper part of the slide which had the mucous on from the healthy Koi only showed up 2 Skin Flukes. The lower part of the same is the mucous from the sick Koi and you can clearly see the opportunistic Costia on this weak Koi. The young lad was quite upset about his small Koi so I've tasked him with getting rid of the Costia and bringing a Koi back for a scrape next week. We also let him pick another Koi.

Please be sure to make an appointment with us if you need help health checking your Koi. All Koi must be kept in your own vehicles at all times.

This Mucous sample was examined using the

 GX Microscope UltraBIO-3 series (trinocular)

The GX range of microscopes is a great entry level microscope for using to check your Koi Mucous samples. They have 4 objectives, which when used with the 10x eyepieces deliver 40x, 100x, 400x and 1000x (oil immersion) magnification. You can see from the microscope tuition videos and Koi Parasite identification videos we are producing that these simple to use microscopes deliver clear images of the Koi parasites allowing for early and correct diagnosis of Fish parasites.

If you purchase your microscope from Elite Koi, we will give you a place on one of our Microscope use workshops free.

The Microscope is one of the most important pieces of equipment for any Koi hobbyist / enthusiast but knowing how to use one correctly is vital for identifying Parasites such as
